~Artwork Of Middle-earth~

Melkor and Ungoliant before the Two Trees of Valinor

The work of Tolkien has inspired so much in the way of art that it would be pointless to attempt to list it all here; the page would be endless! However, there are two artists who continue to stand at the helm of Tolkien inspired art and of whom it is said that they capture the spirit of Middle-earth most effectively. These two artists are John Howe and Alan Lee.

Both John Howe and Alan Lee are famous for their illustrations over a wide variety of areas but it is through their visualisations of Tolkien's world that they are most well known. Both have been commissioned to illustrate various editions of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion, including jacket illustrations.
The buttons below will take you to pages with selected work from Alan Lee and John Howe.
